South Florida golf tournament and gala aims to raise funds for Alpha-1 research

MIAMI BEACH, FL – Each year Alphas, their families, friends, doctors, scientists, members of industry – and people who just love to golf – gather at the Indian Creek Country Club for a golf tournament and dinner celebration at an event called Celebration of Life.

“This year, Celebration of Life will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. We look forward to making this a record-breaking fundraiser for the Foundation!” said Olga M. Fraga, senior director of development for the Foundation and lead event coordinator.

“The theme for the event will be the early 60s,” says Fraga. “The time when Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn were all the rage — the time when the art world was being revolutionized by Warhol and Lichtenstein, and the time when Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency was discovered. Join us as we commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the discovery of Alpha-1 and celebrate all the accomplishments of the Alpha-1 Foundation!”

Celebration of Life, now in its 13th year, has become the Foundation’s flagship fundraising event and an annual highlight of the Foundation’s continuing effort to raise awareness and funds for Alpha-1 research and programs.  This year’s event is Friday, April 26, and will feature, the Alpha-1 Golf Classic, the Cocktail Soirée and the Discovery Dinner at the gorgeous Indian Creek Country Club.

For the first time in the event’s history, AlphaNet’s patient care coordinators from across the country will attend.

The Celebration of Life is chaired by Seth Gordon, gdb/MIAMI and sponsored by AlphaNet, ASD Healthcare, Baxter, Centric Health Resources, CSL Behring, Grifols and Planet Golf.  More information can be found on or call 1-877-228-7321.
