FDA approves multi-strain flu vaccine available next year

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved Fluarix Quadrivalent (influenza virus vaccine) for the immunization of children (ages 3 and older) and adults against seasonal influenza virus subtypes A and type B contained in the vaccine, GlaxoSmithKline Plc announced on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012. The London, UK-based multinational pharmaceutical company said Fluarix Quadrivalent is the first intramuscular vaccine to protect against four influenza strains: the two most common A virus strains, the B strain that was predominant in six of the last 11 flu seasons, and a second B strain.
